Summer is here and I have so much to share with you!!  This spring has been busy here on the farm.  We’re wrapping up school.  Not to mention, planning our first Mother’s Day Tea, don’t worry I’ll share more about the tea in a moment. Planting has also begun, over Mother’s Day weekend we planted sweet onions, bushy cucumbers, Yukon potatoes (because those are my favorite), and carrots.  Oh, and 53 rows of assorted Sunflowers!! That’s not even half of the seeds we have left to plant.  I wonder if you’ll be able to see our sunflowers on Google Earth, random thought…. I can’t forget the 2 new additions to the “Le Coop”, 2 adorable new chicks,an Olive Egger, which will lay dark green eggs and a Blue Maran that will lay chocolate-brown eggs.  Soo thrilled about their arrival, thanks to a fellow farm friend, Cindy. Have I told you how great farmers are?  The best kind of people!  I’ll be sure to share a picture of the little cuties, who are nameless at the moment. This brings our hen total up to 18, well more than I would have imagined I’d ever have.  Funny how God’s plan is so much more interesting than our own.

So where to start….Hmmm…. Let’s talk Mother’s Day Tea!!  What a fabulous, anxiety filled adventure that was!!  It goes something like this, months before the actual event ideas began popping into my head and before I knew it the whole event was on paper.  It was like a download of files just filled my head and there it was.  Know I just needed to put legs on all the ideas I had just written down and in that moment I began to second guess myself.  First step, run this whole thing by Wade, i figured he would put a stop to it and then I could just let it go.  I thought surely he’d have all the reasons why we shouldn’t host such an event at the farm, but guess what, he said, “let’s do it!”  What was I to do now?  He didn’t say no.  He was supposed to say no.  It was in that moment the reality and magnitude of such an event on the farm, which is my home, was setting in.  The excitement soon turned to anxiety.  This was the moment I must put some movement with these great ideas.  To be real, I truly thought this was a God idea and I knew I wanted to be obedient to Him, but I just wasn’t sure I could do it….. On a weekly basis I talked myself out of doing this,  I had thoughts of every possible scenario for disaster and just knew I was setting us (the fam) up for a mess.  Yet there was another piece of me that wanted to do this.  This was a great opportunity to open our home up to our community.  As the deadline began to approach I pushed through the doubt and put it out there.  Maybe no one would come.  I thought this scenario was highly likely, but to my surprise and elation the Mother’s Day Tea sold out, first year!! Wow, 20 ladies marked their calendars and made reservations to come to Blue House Farms for a Mother’s Day Tea.  I was overwhelmed!

I have a sign that hangs in my living room that says, “The best way to get something done is to begin,” and that’s just what I needed to do when it came to hosting this event on the farm.  I needed to begin.  I had to take a step, in faith, and try.

 Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
