Taking a deep breath, literaly, as I begin this post…
We finally decided that this week was the week we could squeeze in a barn sale. You’d think this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but I’m dreading it. Really I just don’t want to face the junk that I’ve allowed to pile up in the “I’ll get to that later” mentality. Can you relate?
I find something I no longer need or use and I add it to the pile. Clothes that no
longer fit or that are not needed, I just add them to the pile. I call this junk. Seems like I hit on this topic a lot, ‘dealing with things in our life’ stuff…. But so many times we allow this junk to hold us back. When we just need to face what’s in our pile, deal with it and prepare to move on. And that’s why this week we’ll be dealing with our piles of junk. No more avoiding what needs to be dealt with, no more NOT dealing with what needs to be dealt with. So we can make room for what IS productive and produces life instead of keeping us living in the darkness of our junk.
For some of us, the reason we choose not to deal with our junk is simply, we’re lazy and we just don’t want to put the time and effort in to cleaning out the junk and we don’t want to make decisions about the junk’s future. Blah…
However, for others the reason hits to close to the heart, dealing with the piles of junk brings up feelings of hurt and pain or loss and rejection. So, it’s easier to just leave those piles sit right where they are. I get that, there’s some of that in my own junk piles. Things I’d rather leave sitting. Some of the excuses I’ve used is, “I don’t have time to deal with that right now.” or “I’m not sure I can handle how I will feel when I go there.”
Shew… Give me a minute…This is like therapy for my own life!! But that’s the thing, God desires to invade every aspect of our lives, not just the easy parts. And more than that, He desires for us to open up every bag of junk we’ve got so that He can help us with all the junk we’ve piled up in our lives. After all, He’s the only one big enough to deal with the junk some of us have let pile up anyway.
Oh, but you know what I hear?? Freedom is calling our names!! Not just for some people, but for ALL people!!
I don’t know about you, but I think I’m ready to deal with my junk piles. I’m moving on toward FREEDOM! I don’t want that stuff to hold me back any longer, it’s no longer serving a purpose in my life, except taking up good space of other things God wants to bring into my life.
Who’s with me?! Don’t trust me, trust Jesus to walk this out with you. Remember, He’s bigger than all your junk and mine too!! So, pull that junk out of your closet, out from under your bed, out of the barn, and let’s make room for Freedom!!
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” ~Deuteronomy 31:6
This whole chapter is good. Take sometime and read about our ancestors, about the promise God made them to go before them in hard times, to fight for them. If your a child of God that’s your promise too. Your inheritance.
Sometimes it’s not just a pile of junk.
Love it, Becky! We’re doing a sale this weekend, but I’ve been dealing with our ‘junk’ for months in preparation. I’ve put it off so many times because I just wasn’t ready….for what, though? Getting rid of it? The work involved? Maybe both. But either way, this seems like a good week to ditch it, physically and spiritually!

Oh that’s good Sarah! So true! Thank you for sharing. It does take work both physically and spiritually to get rid of our junk. Hope your sale goes well.
